Italy 2013
September 15 - 21,
2013
Praxis Peace
Institute is offering a 6-day seminar and tour in the Emilia Romagna region of
Italy. The purpose is to study the inner workings of worker-owned businesses
and to learn about the cultural and political influences in the cooperative
movement in the area. The seminars will be held in the world's oldest
university, the University of Bologna. The tour will include visits to several
cooperatives in the region as well as cooperative umbrella organizations that
link these businesses for the benefit of all.
In addition
to lectures and tours of cooperatives in Imola, we will visit food cooperatives
and agricultural in Modena (the home of Balsamic vinegar), Parma (the home of
Parmesan cheese), and a cooperative winery. The Imola tours will include a
ceramic tile factory and social cooperatives.
A $600
deposit holds your place. Balances may be paid in increments, but total amount
is due by August 2, 2013. If registering on or after that date, full payment is

These prices include
* All
seminars with world-renown economists and social scientists.
* Tours to
cooperatives throughout the Emilia Romagna region.
* 6 nights in
a conveniently-located hotel (easy walking distance to the University of
Bologna, restaurants, cafes, and historical sites).
* Daily
breakfast
* Translator
for tours to cooperatives.
* Coach
transportation to all tour sites.
* Work with
Praxis travel agent, who gets the best fares and coordinates arrival times.
There will not be a bus to pick everyone up from the airport because people
will be coming from different cities at different times and not all from
airports. Our hotel is 15 minutes by cab from the airport and the train station
is in town. There are some very reasonable non-stop flights from the US to
Europe with connections to Bologna.
* An
opportunity to join a post seminar trip by train to Florence. We will stay at a
reasonably priced hotel in the midst of the city and easy walking distance to
everything. Participants will make their own hotel plans, but we will suggest a
hotel so that we can stay at the same place or near each other.
Due to the cost of this seminar/tour, we will not offer
it on a regular basis. So, if you are interested in this unique opportunity,
please consider joining us in September. More information will be forthcoming,
so please check back here frequently for updates.
